I spent years reading labels.
Then I read the one in my gym clothes.
Altered Active exists because I could not buy what I wanted in Bangkok, and I got tired of waiting.
I got serious about my health the way most people do, one thing at a time. Supplements first, then the water, then everything in the bathroom. After a while you get used to turning things over and reading the back before you buy them.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to do that with clothes. I lift, so I am in the same few pieces for hours at a time, sweating into them. When I finally looked, the labels said polyester and nylon. Both of those are plastic. The industry calls them performance fabrics, which tells you what they do and nothing about what they are.
So I went looking for the alternative. Not organic cotton loungewear, actual activewear, plant-based, that works in this heat. It was not here. I decided to make it myself, which sounds braver than it was. Mostly I did not understand how hard it would be.
I had no background in fashion. I funded it myself, not with an investor's money, which means every decision has been mine and every mistake has been mine too. We changed factories partway through, and that cost us time I did not have.
What it is
Every piece in Drop 1 is 48% TENCEL™ Modal, 47% organic cotton and 5% elastane. The fabric is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class I, which is their strictest class and the one used for babies' clothing.
What it is not
It is not plastic-free. That 5% elastane is a plastic, and it is the thing that makes a waistband hold instead of bagging out at the knee by lunchtime. I could have left the number off this page. Plenty of brands would have.
I am telling you because the reason this brand exists is that I got tired of labels that were technically true.
